Reading at Faringdon Arts FestivalSaturday, 9 July 2005We had great fun taking part in the 'Local Writers Aloud' event at the Faringdon Arts Festival.
Jayne on Heather:Listening to Heather read is like watching a one-woman play. For this event, she read her short story Unawares, bringing the tale to life through more than just her confident verbal delivery. Her face, her stance and her hands all came into play to capture the drama of a telephone conversation between the hapless narrator and her first caller to the Crisis Helpline. God Almighty - it was funny! ![]()
Heather on Jayne:Jayne got empathy vibes from the audience early on, when she read from the first chapter of In Your Dreams. In part, it was a parent thing; the picture of young Alfie and Rosie creating teatime cacophony while expectant mother Kate tried to string one coherent thought to the next - it struck a chord. Unanimous laughter came after Kate's description of locomotion in pregnancy, "Imagine walking with a bowling ball between your legs that's bearing down on your delicate parts". |
