Soulmate
'You can never go home again', so the saying goes, but my character Maddy Blake is damned well going to try when supernatural intervention lands her soul in her sister's body.
Having fled to Oxford, England, to avoid watching her sister Elizabeth throw her seemingly perfect life away, Maddy decides to return to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and claim the career, daughter and husband, that she always thought should have been hers. However, she can't help wondering, what's happened to Elizabeth, and why a mad, grieving Irishman, and the man rumoured to be her sister's lover both seem to be following her.
Excerpt from the book
Conor lifted the latch on the low door into the larder and flicked on the interior light. A bare light bulb did its best to shine through a fur of dust. Conor ducked inside and started to rifle through his stock of tins, jars and packets of dried pasta, looking for the box of teabags. He could smell the mustiness of old flour and the sharpness of vinegar. Somewhere an old pickle jar had probably become cracked and was slowly leaking.
He was glad that his guest wasn't peering around the corner to witness his rummaging. She might feel sorry for him, believing that the neglected space summed up his life since Bridget's death, when the larder had, in fact, been just the same when Bridget was very much alive. She'd been the queen of convenience cuisine, and proud of the fact that, in the kitchen, the only two things she knew how to make were tea and love.
